Safety

Playgrounds are a wonderful place for children of all ages, so it's important to play safe. Injuries can be prevented with supervision and on going maintenance.

Planning your new playground and working closely with a professional playground consultant should ensure you have all the current safety information you need to consider when designing a new playground. Playground Planners Safety

Safety inspected; IPEMA and ISO certified

We align ourselves with only the products that match our care to detail, customer service, and demanding quality control. We choose manufacturers that provide excellent Product Warranty Statements and have a proven track record in product excellence and innovative design. It’s our way of contributing to a safe and challenging environment.

IPEMA
PlayPower LT Farmington, Inc. is a member in good standing of IPEMA, the International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association.

PlayPower LT, the holding company of many of our manufacturers; for example, Miracle, Little Tikes, and more, spend incredible time and expense to become a certified member of International Playground Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) and accreditation by ISO 9000. What does this mean to you?

The IPEMA certification means that every product we sell has been inspected by a third party. In the interest of public playground safety, IPEMA provides a 3rd Party Certification service whereby DTL Testing Laboratory, Inc. validates a manufacturer’s certification of conformance to the CAN/CSA-Z614-98 (excluding section 9.6) Children’s Playspaces and Equipment.

An ISO accreditation represents quality assurance. ISO 9000 concerns the way an organization goes about its work—and the way in which an organization manages its processes is obviously going to affect its final product. In the case of ISO 9000, it is going to affect whether or not everything has been done to ensure that the product meets the customer’s requirements—your requirements.

The following safety information and resources will be of interest to you.

10 playground safety questions to ask

  1. Is the playground surface safe?
  2. Is there enough room underneath and around the playground equipment?
  3. Is there adequate space between the playground equipment?
  4. Is the playground age appropriate for the children?
  5. Does the equipment put children at risk from protruding objects?
  6. Does the playground equipment present a strangulation risk?
  7. Are there any parts that can crush or shear?
  8. Is there anything that might cause a child to trip?
  9. Is the playground well maintained?
  10. Has the playground been renovated since 1990?

Playground inspections

Upon the completion of your new playground, you may want to consider requesting from your manufacturer:

  • Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Compliance Certificate
  • International Playground Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) Certificate
  • International Organization for Standards (ISO) Certificate

It is suggested that all playground equipment be inspected by a third party inspector with the following credentials:

  • Hold current certification by a recognized playground safety course for inspectors
  • Be a third party inspector and declare non-conflict of interest, including declaration of non-affiliation with playground equipment and protective surface manufacturers, suppliers and/or other contractors involved in the retrofit, upgrade or repair of playground equipment and protective surfaces
  • Have proof of current Professional Errors and Omissions insurance coverage. Only Errors and Omissions insurance provides coverage related to interpretations of the standard, the judgment of non-compliant equipment, the documentation of the observations and recommendations, any non-intentional and non negligent errors or omissions that may inadvertently occur.
